From Germany to Greece: The Last Stop for a Wandering Soul (And How We Can Help)

The Itchy Feet Chronicles: A Life on the Move

If you’ve been following along (or if Leila has told you about my chaotic life), you know we’ve both bounced around the globe like pinballs. Business partners only, calm down. But let’s be real—we’ve seen our fair share of the world. Here’s my journey, warts and all.

Germany: The Dream That Wasn’t (Spoiler: I Sucked at Football)

I moved to Germany to play football. Yes, that football. Spoiler alert: I didn’t make it. And no, I can’t blame my cruciate ligaments—I was just average. Not even bad enough to be memorable. But hey, at least I learned how to drink beer like a pro and pretend to understand offside rules.

Australia: The Dream That Was a Nightmare (Visas Are the Devil)

I’ve already talked about Australia, but let’s recap: beautiful country, shitty treatment of foreigners. Getting a visa there is like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded while someone yells at you in Australian slang. A special circle of hell.

UK: The Love-Hate Relationship (Thanks for the Discipline, Sorry for the Weather)

Seven years in the UK—London and Leeds. Look, I love the Brits. Most of them. Their humor, their resilience, their ability to queue like it’s an Olympic sport. Professionally? Best place to make money if you’re ready to grind.

But.

The weather is miserable. The food is… let’s just say I lost 10 kg when I left. And winter? Six months of gray skies and existential dread. I’ll always be grateful for the discipline and punctuality, but my soul needed sunshine.

Romania: The Unexpected Gem (Iasi, You Surprised Me)

I trained sales teams in Iasi. And it was a blast. Warm people, cheap cost of living, underrated nightlife. Not a forever-home for me, but if you’re looking for a hidden European gem, put Iasi on your list.

Spain: The Party That Turned Sour (Barcelona, I Love You, But…)

Malaga, Marbella, Barcelona—sun, sex, and sangria. At first, it was magic. Then reality hit. Barcelona in summer? A playground for tourists getting wasted. If you’re not mentally solid, it’s easy to spiral. And don’t get me started on gentrification—what was once bohemian is now a rich kid’s playground.

Portugal: The Almost-Perfect Fit (If It Weren’t for the Hype)

Portugal was great. Lisbon’s charm, Porto’s wine, the Algarve’s beaches—what’s not to love? Well, gentrification struck again. Prices skyrocketed, locals started side-eyeing foreigners, and suddenly, it felt like Berlin 2.0.

Greece: The Final Chapter (For Now)

And then, there’s Greece. The place that made me stop wandering.

Why Greece Won Me Over

  • Thessaloniki: Young, dynamic, history on every corner. No pretentiousness, just vibes.

  • The Road Trip: 15,000 km, top to bottom. Kavala’s charm, Northern Greece’s rugged beauty, Peloponnese’s history overload (close your eyes and hear Apollo’s chariot). Affordable, welcoming, real.

  • The People: From old men playing chess in the street to LGBTQ+ couples holding hands without a second glance. You can be whoever you want here.

Look, Greece isn’t perfect. Bureaucracy can be a pain in the ass (AFM, bank accounts, you name it). Some islands are too quiet, Athens can feel chaotic, and if you’re used to Northern Europe’s efficiency, you’ll need patience. But here’s the thing: the good outweighs the bad by a mile—if you’re ready for a life that’s rich in experiences, not just money.
